The knives are very sharp out of the box, and cut exceptionally well. Having the integrated knife sharpener is great as it means you can keep the knives sharp and ready for your next cooking session. I will add that I am not sure the knife sharpener will sharpen the scissors, so be careful there. The knives and scissors are all black, with black handles and blades with the blade beneath in silver so as you sharpen, more of the black covering will be removed.
The knife block is a heavy wooden block, so is quite steady and sturdy, although there is a chemical type smell when you first take it out of the box which does fade after a while, so keep the block airated and it is fine after a few days.
You also get a booklet outlinng the knives in the set,so you know what each one does and is used for so you dont end up using a Santoku knife to slice bread :).
Overall a great looking, great value knife set, with a variety of knives for all your cooking/cutting needs.

I received this to review as part of the Amazon vine program.
This is currently priced at £39.90 with a £10 off voucher. I think it is good value at this price.
The block is heavy. It was a bit dusty when I took it out of the box, and the finish isn’t perfect – the block has a couple of dents and the top isn’t perfect. However, the set itself is good and once the knives are in it looks fine. I have tried all knives and the scissors and they are sharp. I think it looks great in the black and silver, and the black coated blades are an extra stylish touch. I anticipate that this will last me a very long time.

These being black were a complete contrast to the previous white handled set but she is equally as delighted, they are incredibly sharp though that isn’t a major concern given a sharper is built in to the block to ensure an ever keen blade, plus they look the business too, they may be kitchen knives but I could imagine Jaques Cousteau (look him up) strapping one of these to his leg before diving into the depths of the ocean.
Now I’m scared what she may ask for next!

The box is heavy on arrival, which is a good thing – you don’t want a lightweight knife block that could tip over and fling sharp blades all over the place! Oddly though, when getting the block out of the box there was a really strong smell of paint, almost as if the wood had been sprayed just before being wrapped up. The smell faded after a couple of days, but if I go in close and sniff, it’s still there. It’s a little off-putting, and makes me wonder about the finish quality of the block itself. The bottom of the block is slightly rough finished as well, and the slot for scissors is not quite square, all of which add to my feeling that the block is not as good quality as the knives.
All that said though, I have to say I’m overall very pleased with the set because the knives themselves are really good – they come very sharp (though I note one other reviewer said they had to sharpen theirs on arrival, I think that was an anomaly), and the block incorporates a sharpener on one corner, which is a nice touch, but hopefully I won’t need it for a while.
As you can see from the photo, there is a wide range of knife styles and shapes in the set, some of which I will be using a lot, some maybe not so much – at first, at least! I already have a very good quality bread knife, for instance, so the one in this set may not get much use. Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to getting used to most of these knives in everyday prep – they feel really good in the hand, well balanced and they cut really well.
I like the fairly matt black finish on both handles and blades, it looks stylish and minimalistic. I will only be hand washing these, not sure how dishwasher safe they might be!
